Prouty Run a Smashing Success

September 20th, 2011

SPENCER, Mass. –  Under sunny skies and amidst idyllic conditions, nearly 50 runners took to the roads of Spencer as part of the inaugural Prouty Run.  The event, proudly presented by MHPI, Inc. thanks to a number of sponsors and supporters, was comprised of a one-mile children’s run and 5K race.  Both race courses took competitors through the hilly and challenging terrain of Spencer making for a route described by many as one of the most difficult and demanding they have ever encountered.

Race winners included John Pajer (18:07) in the overall men’s 5K competition and Spencer’s own Mary Lammi (21:24) in the overall women’s 5K competition.  Children’s winners were boy’s winner Christian Marshall (7:50) followed closely by girl’s champion Jackie Bokis (7:53).  All children’s run participants came away with certificates of appreciation while Bokis and Marshall each received United States Savings Bonds valued at $50 courtesy of Spencer Savings Bank.

Proceeds from the event will be used towards the creation and establishment of additional programming for elderly tenants at MHPI owned and operated Senior Living at Prouty as well as seniors hailing from Spencer and the surrounding area.

The day could not have been made possible without the support of nearly 50 sponsors who all contributed greatly to the overall success of the event.  Gold Medal Sponsors were Century Bank, Dr. James Ostromecky or Spencer and Spencer Savings Bank.  Silver Medal Sponsors were Fred and Dale Cormier and Varney’s Garage.  Those participating as Bronze Medal Sponsors were Brunelle and Sons Landscaping, FLEXcon, Lamoureux Ford, Residential Support Services, Inc., US Pest Control, Webster Federal Credit Union, Whitco Sales and Whittemore and Salvucci, P.C.  In addition, there were countless other individuals, businesses and organizations who lent their support to MHPI’s inaugural effort whether it be through financial contributions, the donation of goods and services, the purchase of raffle tickets or volunteering their time on race day.
