Maple Street School became the fifth such local school/organization to come to Prouty since its opening in March of 2010.  In the two years of the building’s existence, boys and girls of all ages from Spencer and the neighboring areas have been frequent and welcome visitors to the building to brighten the lives of those who call it home.  Hardly a few weeks go by without little visitors coming to the facility.

NEWTON, Ma. – RSSI Home Care, an affiliate of MHPI, Inc. recently expanded its service area by opening an office in Mashpee in an effort to better serve elderly and those with disabilities in southeastern Massachusetts, including the Cape.  RSSI Home Care is committed to delivering the optimal level of service to the elderly in southeastern part of the Commonwealth, enabling them to remain living independently at home for as long as possible.

“Opening this office is a great step in the expansion of our organization to deliver services to a greater number of clients,” President and Founder Sheldon D. Bycoff said.  “For nearly four decades we have been assisting people to age in place and enjoy a high quality of life as the aging process unfolds.  We look forward to bringing our high standards, commitment to excellence and passion for home care to the elderly and those living with disabilities residing in southeastern Massachusetts.”

Working collaboratively, RSSI Home Care’s team of Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides come together to deliver a wide and varied array of services to seniors and those with disabilities.  Among the services rendered are case management in consultation with medical professionals, assistance with bathing, toileting, meal preparation as well as help with shopping, light housekeeping and accompaniment to medical appointments.  Services can be paid for through a variety of channels.

The first part of the program saw tenants create a number of functional and useful crafts and articles of clothing including winter scarves, letter holders, bracelets and wreaths.  All the while, spirited board games were taking place while yet another part of the group was in the first floor kitchen busily preparing a full fare of healthy appetizers.  Chelsea City Councilor Brian Halterberg, a frequent visitor to the facility dropped by during the festivities.

Following crafts time, the meal, consisting of a plentiful supply of nutritional appetizers and fruit skewers were served.  The program commenced with a lively and competitive bingo tournament with prizes of potted plants and chocolate candy, both graciously donated, were vied for.

Many program participants, both Nobles students and Bellingham Hill tenants, truly enjoyed the day and anxiously await the next intergenerational program offering at the building.

The students not only belted out nearly every seasonal favorite imaginable but also recited a poem and treated those in attendance to a few instrumental offerings.  All the while, the students’ and faculty members enthusiasm helped building tenants get further into the holiday mood than ever before.

Over 40 tenants as well as MHPI staff gathered to jubilantly ring in the holiday season.  The event featured a hearty fare of turkey, ham, chicken wings along with all the fixings.  A raffle for door prizes, all graciously donated by Smith Leadership Academy, was then held with over 20 tenants coming away with gifts.  A disc jockey was on hand to provide entertainment throughout the proceedings as tenants and staff alike let loose and took to the makeshift dance floor.

Passion East a very interactive musical holiday performance took place in front of appreciative tenants at Senior Living at Prouty as well. Tenants were first treated to a lunch buffet of sandwiches and salad, with cookies and pie for dessert.. Once the show began, keyboard, percussion, and sax were highlighted, with tenants joining in with vocals and “noisemakers”, with songs from legends Sam Cook and Mel Torme all the way to dancing to “The Saints Come Marchin’ In”. Several people took their turns on the mike singing a line or two…or three! Volunteers from Spencer Cable Access were on hand to videotape (and enjoy) the show too.
